We support local production of wood products
We need to talk about a topic that matters and concerns each of us – supporting local wood processing and local furniture production.
In 2023, furniture industry output in ROMANIA fell by 13% compared to 2022, and domestic furniture manufacturing dropped to 87% of last year's output. This is an alarming figure on several levels. At the same time, imports of furniture and accessories have increased compared to last year.
At the same time, approximately 90% of Romanian furniture production is exported.
According to a report by Allied Market Research, the global furniture industry was estimated at $556.36 billion in 2020, and is expected to reach $877.43 billion by 2031 based on a compound annual growth rate of 3.8% from 2022 to 2031. I think it's time for us to cut a bigger slice of this pie too.
As a long-standing active member of the Romanian Furniture Manufacturers Association (APMR), we know the path of this industry very well, from the perspective of a dealer as well as that of a manufacturer, and even an end customer.
The initiatives regarding unity in the industry supported and communicated by APMR, to which we unequivocally adhere, prove the desire but also the necessity of a paradigm shift.
In a world of consumerism and continuous change, a piece of furniture that is given to our grandchildren no longer has the same value.
Local production is not just a process. It is a way of expressing ideas, of putting into practice the craft developed over hundreds of years and passed down from generation to generation. We increasingly notice that the emphasis is placed on technologization and automation of processes. It is a normal, natural path, I could say, especially since technologies have become increasingly accessible and available to the general public.
However, a machine, even at the level of artificial intelligence, cannot design a large project with unique specifications, which it can then produce and present to clients. Technology and digitalization make our work easier, but, at least at the moment, they do not replace the creation - production - delivery process.
When we support local, Romanian production, we support the people in our Romanian community. These are familiar faces, they may be neighbors, friends, or future friends.
Local producers put passion and work into each project they create. This makes the process personal and the quality superior.
By buying Romanian brands, we support our country's economy, help maintain jobs and actively contribute to increasing the quality of life in the country.
Resetting purchasing behaviors and supporting this sector must start with everyone. In this way, the 90% of furniture exported can be reduced, to our benefit.
In times of crisis, the unity of a people in all aspects that concern them translates into a more peaceful state of each individual.
Together we are stronger!
